Gallery Events:

The gallery hosts various educational and fundraising events throughout the year such as opening previews of exhibits, lectures, dinners and receptions. Volunteers play a key role by providing assistance and energy. Willing hands are needed to help out as mail-stuffers, greeters, servers, and setup and cleanup crews. But most importantly, the CAA Associates, through their volunteer involvement, show their appreciation and support of the Carmel Art Association.

   Volunteer Activities:

  • Volunteering as "worker bees" to assist with mailings, art openings and receptions.
  • Assisting with the semi-annual historical exhibitions by providing support as a docent.
  • Assisting with fundraising events.
  • Raising funds for student art scholarships.

Student work will not be considered. Work using a photo process, four color reproductions or machine produced images, paper maché, weaving, jewelry or pottery will not be considered.

  Voting Process and Artist Participation

Membership is determined by secret ballot of the current 15 member Board of Directors. Ten votes are needed to be accepted as an artist member. The jury will be making their decision based on originality, continuity and professional quality.

Applicants who are accepted to the Art Association are initially accepted as provisional members. After a period of six months, new members are considered for acceptance as permanent members by the same jury which accepted them provisionally.

Acceptance for permanent membership is judged principally on the basis of whether work brought in during the period of provisional membership is of the quality indicated by the work submitted with the original application.

Participation:
The CAA is the second oldest cooperative art organization in the United States. Because this is an artist owned and operated association, members are required to participate in and contribute to the operation of the gallery aside from displaying their work. All members must volunteer a minimum of 12 hours per year.

Artist members are required to bring in new work on the first Wednesday of each month.

If accepted, the artist must be ready to hang their work in a new member’s show shortly thereafter.

Membership Dues: Membership dues are $300 per year.
