"Abstract at 80: Past & Present" - September 2009 Solo Show


William F. Stone, Jr. is a third generation Californian.   Educated at U.C. Berkeley and San Jose State University, he was a certified medical illustrator before spending two years teaching art in public high school.


Moving to the Monterey Peninsula in 1965, Stone has always been active in local art organizations including the Monterey Museum of Art and Monterey History and Art Association. He has served on the boards of these organizations as well as the Carmel Art Association board as President.

His colorful stylized watercolors represent the many areas where he has traveled, including the British Isles, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New England, as well as many California locations. He has also done a number of commemorative poster designs and published an illustrated book of original poetry. He joined the Carmel Art Association in 1972.


William F. Stone, Jr. passed away
on August 22, 2009, two weeks before the opening
of his final exhibit, "Abstract at 80: Past & Present".
