Joseph Nordmann is a former professor of chemistry and co-owner of a laboratory doing environmental work in Van Nuys, California. Nationally honored for teaching, he is the author of college chemistry texts and articles on art.


He began painting in an impressionistic manner more than 40 years ago with Paul Conner, one of southern California's great plein-air painters. Later he studied with Nicolai Fechin. More recently he has worked with Charles Movalli, Van Waldron and Edward Norton Ward. Nordmann has taught painting at Salinas Adult School, conducted outdoor workshops and performed numerous painting demonstrations. Most of Nordmann's work is done out-of-doors. His specialty is California landscapes.


Besides the Carmel Art Association, he shows in Carmel at the S.R. Brennan Gallery. He lives in nearby Pacific Grove.
