Kathleen Crocetti
Sculptor

Kathleen Crocetti has been a practicing artist since 1984 when she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art from Mary Washington College. Kathleen worked exclusively in stone for eight years before she began experimenting with other media in 1992. In 1996 she earned her Masters of Fine Arts from Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont. In addition to her installations, Kathleen has become quite well known and an in demand artist for her performance work with elaborate fiber optic costumes.

Kathleen is a regular contributing artist to First Night cities. In 2001 she created a “Weaving Room” for First Night Santa Cruz. She constructed ten looms, each 10’ long and 7’ tall, all connected and lining the interior of the archway in the newly constructed Cooper House. Participants were invited to write wishes for the New Year on ribbons and weave them into the looms.

She created “Fishing for Wishes” in 1995, “Quilted Lighthouse of Wishes” (1996) and the “Goodwill Gift Exchange” (1997) for First Night Monterey. She continues participating in First Nights, recently in Tacoma, WA in 2002 and Albany, NY in 2003.

Her most recent installation at the Carmel Art Association was in a group show with Heidi Hybl and Jan Wagstaff in 2000.(see photo). Kathleen often uses recycled and discarded objects in her installations and performance work. Some of her latest work includes dresses made from CD’s and another series of clothing made entirely from GAP labels. Videos of her performance work are available for viewing or sale at the Carmel Art Association gallery.
