Drawing and dribbling paint along the way, Mary danced a path through the San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and then Broadway musicals as a soloist and principal dancer. A Hirschfeld cartoon was published in the New York Times when Mary stopped the show with the "wickedest can-can on Broadway" in Agnes DeMille's "Paint Your Wagon." Touring and performing throughout the U.S. and Europe, Mary was married in London, and three children later, came to the Monterey Peninsula from New York, "so the children could go to the beach without a two-hour subway ride."
Now, having left Monterey Peninsula College after twenty years in Graphic Arts, and having won a national award in that field, Mary has emerged as a full-time painter and sculptor. Mary attended classes with Jon Corino at the Art Students League in New York, classes at the Chicago Art Institute for a time, classes with Victor di Gesu in Monterey, and art classes at Monterey Peninsula College.
She is currently represented in the U.S. and Europe in the private estates of several art collectors including the late actor Yul Brynner, director Daniel Mann, choreographers Bob Fosse and Anthony Tudor. She has exhibited at the Pacific Grove Art Center, Gallery 7 in Pacific Grove and at the Collector Gallery in New York City. Mary has been a member of the Carmel Art Association since 1989 and has served on its board of directors.
